I
am currently living in Venice, Florida, on the the Gulf coast.
My family moved here from Wisconsin in 1969. I still have the house
in Wisconsin that was built, by my great grandfather, in 1906.
I grew up going back and forth between the two houses, and am lucky
to be able to continue doing so. Both places have their attraction,
but, for now, warmth has triumphed!
I attended public school in Venice from 2nd grade until graduation.
When it was time for college, I decided to move back to Wisconsin,
to take care of the family house, and to attend the University
of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I entered as an English major, and,
while I
did complete the English degree, I quickly realized that my true
joy was the making of objects. My initial focus was in functional
clay, but eventually I discovered metal and have remained intrigued
with its possibilities. I applied to the graduate programs of The Rhode Island School
of Design and Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, was accepted
into both programs, and chose to do my graduate studies at Tyler,
in Philadelphia, where I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. While
still in grad school, I applied to the prestigious Philadelphia Craft
Show and was accepted. Upon graduation, I returned to Wisconsin,
set up my studio, and began what has become a life-long career. Since
earning my MFA, in 1989, I have made a living selling my work each
year solely at the 7 or 8 top retail shows in the country. When my
mother died in 2001, I moved into her home in Florida. I travel back
to the Wisconsin house when I can.
Throughout almost 20 years of ”doing the shows,” I've met wonderful
people, had a good deal of fun, traveled all over America and earned
my share of praise and recognition. Alas, I’ve grown weary
of schlepping, cheesy motels, kooky interstate drivers, obscene gas
prices and standing in the street with a booth full of sterling silver—getting
rained on, windblown, frozen or baked, all while having people tell
me that they'll be back when they win the lottery. So . . . here's
my Web site! I hope you enjoy looking at my work and that you'll
consider adding something Ive created to you collection.
